2018: The Year of Additions

I've been a little absent on the site and its associated social media platforms the past couple of weeks.  This was by design.  I'm not abandoning Wild(ish) Child; I was simply savoring the holidays and my family.  This is crazy, but I have even taken a few naps lately.  However, my rest time is coming to an end and it's time to get back to work!

Since it's a new year, it seems like an appropriate time to discuss my plans, personally and for the site, for the next 12 months.  There are three items planned for 2018 that will affect the site, and they are not changes so much as additions.  Hence the title of this article.

First of all, I plan on adding a new series.  My kids love games, and there are tons of really unique and awesome ones out there.  I think games make great gifts because they use brain power, present opportunities to teach cooperation and good sportsmanship, and (very importantly) are easy to store.  So, we have an abundance of games and added about 565 more this past Christmas (at least that what it feels like).  Therefore, the fourth Monday of every month will now be dedicated to highlighting a game we own and love.  I'm calling it Mind Game Monday.

Check back January 22nd for the first post in this series.

Secondly, I intend to get some items in the store.  If you've perused the site, you have seen the store button and perhaps read its "coming soon" message.  Well, soon is coming even sooner.  I hope to have some nifty things available in the next few weeks.

I mention in the disclosure section of the site that the store exists to support the site and keep it ad free.  I really don't want to ever plaster the site with all those banner ads you've become accustomed to seeing everywhere, but it does take a little money to keep the site running.  The store is my solution to this financing conundrum.  I am going to offer products, designed by me, that focus on promoting your role as a parent and highlighting your children's wilder side!  I'm really excited about the store, as it affords me another creative outlet.  Though Wild(ish) Child has nothing to do with design and décor as far as content goes, it is something that I appreciate and enjoy.  So, if you like what I create and you enjoy the site, you can choose to support it and buy something you actually want rather than involuntarily being assaulted with a million ads.

Lastly, I am personally making an addition.  If you follow any of my social media accounts, you already know what I'm talking about.  If not, here it is.  I'm pregnant!  Yep, baby number four is on the way and will make his or her debut this summer.

So sweet.  The most adorable little alien ever.

I predict two ways this will directly affect the site.  The first is that you may see some decline in activity on the site and my social media accounts in the month or two following the baby's arrival.  It usually takes me that long to feel somewhat normal again.  But please know, I am dedicated to keeping this site current and am not giving up.  I'm sure you know where I'm coming from and understand.  Secondly, I'm excited about the increase of scope this baby will bring to the site.  Tres just turned two, so we are fresh out of the baby and toddler stage.  This new little joy will help keep me in tune for a bit longer with that world.  I am truly going to have them ranging from newborn to big kid. (The Boy just turned 9, but I don't want to talk about that...sniff, tears, sniff.)

I'm certain 2018 will see more changes and additions to the site beyond what I've identified here, but these are the ones I foresee.  It is my hope that you will be with me through the year to see what it brings, and if you've been with me to this point, I truly appreciate it.  You have no idea what your support means, and I can never adequately express it, but I offer a hearty and sincere thanks to you!
